- After
Jennifer won't have sex with Billy in first act, Billy asks his father
for advice
- Billy lets Irene escape
at hospital
- Irene goes to mother's
cemetery, accidentally meets cleaned up Richard, talks about mother,
Lansdale wants to arrest, but then...passively observes, lets life
play out...plants GPS on both cars
- Billy fails to seduce
Jennifer, acts like a man in boy's body, but Jennifer stays in
bedroom...
- Irene seduces Billy
again, Jennifer witnesses
- Billy wants to use a
condom this time with Irene, she asks, 'Do you want to have twins? Too
late for that?!" (Irene is ditz enough to think that she could conceive
again while already pregnant.
- Jennifer seduces
Billy...fuck me! Billy is young and can have sex again. You did it for
her, do it for me.
- Richard follows Irene
to
Billy's, sees Billy have sex with Irene, then with Jennifer, is
impressed... sneaks inside to compliment Billy
- Irene is impressed with
purity of Billy and Jennifer's young love, yearns to have a "healthy"
relationship with Billy, thinks about letting Billy have Jennifer
- Why doesn't Irene get a
normal guy, Billy and Irene scan POF for guys, none good enough for
Irene...why? First love?
- Billy either asks nurse
for copy of Dread Obsession
or it mysteriously shows up in hospital room (surreptitiously placed by
Irene).
- After kidnapping, Billy
tries to seduce Jennifer by reading romance novel to her. She thinks
that it is stupid, but falls for it anyway. Romance novel story
parallels the kidnapping of Billy or the star crossed love of
Billy/Jennifer or Billy/Irene.
- Sex between
Billy/Irene/Jennifer comically interrupted by Billy's parents.
- Jennifer spies through
window, watches Billy & Irene having sex, while Richard spies on
Jennifer from outside with binoculars, Lansdale spies on Richard, Jen,
Billy/Irene with night vision goggles
- Billy tries to have an
affair with both Jen and Irene. Irene says, 'You can't have both of us."
- Irene explains to
Lansdale, "The heart wants what it wants. Billy was born too late, but
I've fixed that. I've made him the man that he will be, the loving man,
only I've gotten the cosmic schedule back on track."
- In the return to the
cemetery, Richard asks what Irene wants. Irene's mother Kate rises from
the grave and then we flash back to happier times for the family, when
Kate gave her daughter ice cream, when the family was whole, played on
the beach, lived a life in virtual heaven, in the dream and they
embraced, when Irene happily spied on her parents making love
beautifully. Flash froward, but childhood ends, as does all things.
Flash forward to Richard's loneliness, to his rape of his daughter, a
la Father Figure from Madonna.
- Need the Casablanca
epiphany at the climax, probably that Billy and Jen belong together,
but that paradoxically, Irene's crime brought them together (sort of
like Pirates of the Caribbean moral), Lansdale to Irene, "You did the
right thing for the wrong reason."
- Billy is actually in love with
Jennifer, not with Irene.
- Billy has bunk beds and
hospital bed in his room. Jennifer is upset at Billy, so moves to the
other bed. Irene sneaks in and has sex with him while Jennifer "sleeps"
- When Lansdale sees Irene and
Richard "make up" in cemetery, she decides to let events work
themselves out. She expresses doubt to her partner who is helping stake
out Billy's house.
- In cemetery, Lansdale sees
Richard and Irene both crying. That is why Lansdale decides to not
apprehend Irene yet, she wants to let life play out.
- Billy and Irene actually have very little
in common, but Billy and
Jennifer have lots in common, the basis of a real relationship.
- Lansdale finally
arrests Irene after Irene tries to kill Jen, but after Irene causes
Billy and Jen to fall into "real" love.
- Richard always knew
where Billy lived, since he was Billy's neighbor during the original
kidnapping.
- Richard meets Billy's
father in passing, outside father's house.
- When Lansdale first
visits Richard's house to interview him, she places a GPS tracker on
his car.
- When Billy objects to
having sex with Irene because she is pregnant, Irene gushes about the
possibility of her bearing twins.
- At the cemetery,
Richard is already there (trailed by Lansdale and the GPS tracker).
Irene and Richard agree to a truce while in the demilitarized zone of
the cemetery. "Mom (Kate) wouldn't want us to fight at her grave site."
- Jennifer sits outside
Billy's window while Billy/Irene have sex. Later, Irene exits through
Billy's window, right over the crouching Jen. Jennifer sees that Irene
is no longer wearing underwear.
- Jennifer sees Billy
performing oral sex on Irene and is disgusted and...fascinated.
- When Jennifer demands
intercourse from Billy during his refractory period, Billy objects, but
Jen says, "You played it for her, you can play it for me." (Casablanca
reference)
- As Irene is leaving
Billy's house, she encounters Richard, who cynically points out that
Billy is now making out with Jennifer
- Richard's "fatherly"
advice is eerily similar to the wise advice that Billy's own father
eventually gives him about Jennifer
- Father originally tells
Billy that sex will come in it's own time (after Jennifer rejects Billy
and father is driving Billy to the mall). When Father asks Billy why he
went with Irene, Billy throws his father's advice back to him, the sex
DID happen in it's own time, Zen... Irene and Billy give the same
advice to Billy about sex, "In it's own time". Billy counters that he
should be proactive, not passive in this matter.
- Billy: Reenee
(Billy's baby name for Irene), I love Jennifer!
What do we have to
talk about?
- Irene: You're only
fourteen. How can you know what you want? (They both double take on the
irony)
- Billy: Aren't you
trapped in who you are when you were fourteen?
- Irene: What happens
when you break up with Jennifer?
- Billy: (ACCD Sat.
High speaking in tongues/chair lift or from Dread Desire Greek chorus.
The tale of a boy seduced by a woman) I'll deal with that when I get
there. The future is unknowable. For ten years, you've been pining away
for someone who didn't even exist yet, who wasn't "born".
- Irene was fucked up by
incest, but Billy doesn't have to be scarred. Billy was voluntary, not
so much a victim. Freewill for him.
- If Billy really is in
love with Jennifer, then why does he have sex with Irene again? Variety? Subconsciously
knows that Jennifer will then
want him?
- Billy could wake up in
bed at home, with Irene, when he thought that a platonic, cuddling
Jennifer would be there (bathroom?)
- Through bedroom window,
Lansdale and Irene watch Billy and Jennifer make love. Lansdale
consoles Irene and tells her to scoot.
- Hard light is yang,
soft light is yin.
